Own Your Skills — Even If You’re Still Learning 🚀

How to show your confidence despite knowing less?

Vanakkam Boys & girls,

It feels very personal, writing to you after a loooooooong time.

Oru maasam aagiruchu, la…

Unmai ya sollanum na, in my whole career history, office work ku ivlo effort potadhu indha last one month la thaan.

Appram I had a couple of feedbacks from my previous letter —

Correct thaan. Some people tend to take quick actions and might miss coming back for the second half. Another one was…

Hehe. Oru news letter ku evlo neram thaan spend pannuveenga? Most ah zone out aagirrom la… So, keeping this letter a bit short.

Yen na, feedback thaana namakku ellame…

Seri, matterukku varuvom!!

How many times have you stopped yourself from talking about your skills just because you feel you're not “good enough” yet?

News flash: Nobody is perfect. And nobody expects you to be.

The key? Own your skills. Talk about what you’ve done, what excites you, and how you solve problems—even if you’re still learning.

Here’s how to start (as usual, advice illa — pure relatables and actionables, at least for most of you, hehe)

Simple ah solanum na… Stop waiting to feel "ready" 🙂

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.” ― Aristotle [850x400] : r/QuotesPorn

You learn while doing mattum thaan.

Oru Kutty story…

When I was in 3rd year, I started learning Ionic & Angular (to develop mobile & web apps) through their official documentation. The more I read, the more I feared - “enna da idhu, ivlo irukka? When am I going to start building my first app“ nu.

But, there is always a section - “Build your First Ionic/Angular App”. I simply went there and started. There was a prerequisite of installing a couple of packages before starting.

Nalla mutti modhi, I took 2 days to complete it. I didn’t just install the necessary packages; but also understood what exactly was “npm“ and how they fancily print stuff and fetch inputs via CLI (athaan, namma command line or terminal window is also called as CLI - Command Line Interface).

Basically I'm A Watch Mechanic

Then, I just copied and pasted the commands step by step, and finally, I had a boiler plate version of my app.

Appram enna, idhukku mela building on top of what I had. I took a scenario of Money Manager, and named it as “Transfer Wallet“ — publish la pannanum nu yosikala, but it did the basics in my local system.

Leter, kutty kutty projects pannittu, group ah sendhu SRM Connect nu oru Events App pannom, and then appdiye Freelance kooda pannen with what I knew.

Every time I hit a blocker, I google “How to ….“ avlothaan. It’s going to be simple to figure out.

Adhuvum, ippo in this AI era, tools like Perplexity are going to spill you the best resources along with straightforward answers, whenever you are stuck.

Seri, en kadhai ah vidunga… unga kadhai ku varuvom!!

Here are 3 ways in which you can show your confidence despite knowing less…

✅ Talk about the projects you’ve worked on.

You built a basic website? Nice! Don’t downplay it with, "Oh, it’s nothing big." Instead, share the process —

👉 What did you build?👉 What challenges did you face?👉 How did you overcome them?

Even if it’s a simple college assignment, explain it like it’s a case study. "We had to build a to-do list app, but I made mine sync across devices!" That’s how you show ownership.

✅ Share your learning process.

Me taking 2 days to install a couple of packages eh oru example thaan.

Even if you are figuring out graphic design…

Write about it. “Tried Canva today. My first design looks like a disaster, but here’s what I learned about color contrast!” 🎨

When you share (document), you attract like-minded people.

Maybe your random LinkedIn post about debugging code?

Someone might DM you saying, “Bro, I faced the same issue!” - avlothaan!! Network gets building there without even trying.

✅ Show how you solve problems.

Whether it’s coding, content creation, or even negotiating with your hostel warden for better WiFi (relatable? 👀), document the journey.

Simple! Got stuck on something? Share how you fixed it.

“Idhellam ah bro, panradhu?” nu kekkama, poiye panni paarunga! That’s where you start.

You know what? People don’t follow “experts”. Unmailaye, no one likes “experts“. Peope love to meet, speak and connect with people who figure things out as they go. Be that person.

Because, by becoming an expert — you just limit your boundaries. Seriously!!

Yaaru sonna nu theriyal… but a quote for you…

You won't believe me, but Confidence beats Preparation!

Let’s be honest — The best candidates aren’t always the most prepared. They’re the ones who walk in with self-assurance.

💬 "Pakka va prepare pannen bro, aana sodhappiten" — I've heard this many times.

💬 "Perusa answer pannala bro, but oru nalla feel irukku kidaichirum nu" — I've heard this also many times.

Think about it: 2 students apply for the same internship, seriya —

✅ One has perfect answers but doubts themselves.

✅ The other knows they’ll figure things out, even if they don’t have all the answers.

Who do you think will be selected?

Of course, the one who radiates confidence 🔥

Because, the first one - "enakku full ah theriyaadhe" nu Ellam therinja thaan oru new project accept pannuvaan.

The second one - "edu paathukkalaam" nu oru 50% therinja kooda, project eduthutu figure out pannikkuvaan!

📌 That’s why I say your journey toward becoming a self-governing individual starts in college.

A determined young student sorcerer. It is a digital illustration that sparkles with dark shades of green and wiazardy violet colors and dynamic brushstrokes, showcasing the wizard's dedication and potential. Of course, the one who radiates confidence!

In the real world, it's not about being the most prepared.

It's about believing in yourself enough to step up. 🚀

Now, enough of wisdom. It’s time to act up on it.
